In 1904 Mrs Mary Sarah Bertram converted a haggis shop at 40 Hanover Street into Edinburgh's first health food shop. Known originally as the 'Healthfoods Depot', it's been there ever since. At well over 100 years old it's the oldest health food store that we know.

Originally founded as a reaction to the mechanised and adulterated foods of the period, you would have found a range of nuts, fruit, wholefoods, and vegetarian alternatives. You can still find these products, but since the 1970s under a new direction we became, and remain, Edinburgh's premium outlet for nutrition and natural remedies.
